Instructions:

Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks. Wash and prepare the vegetables, chopping them into smaller pieces if necessary.

Place the potatoes and vegetables in a large pot, cover them with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer and cook until both the potatoes and vegetables are tender. This usually takes around 15-20 minutes, but the exact time will vary depending on the type and size of the vegetables.

While the potatoes and vegetables are cooking, prepare the smoked sausage according to the package instructions. This typically involves simmering it in hot water for a few minutes.

If you’re using bacon or pancetta, you can fry it in a separate pan until crispy. Once cooked, set it aside.

When the potatoes and vegetables are cooked, drain them and return them to the pot. Mash them together with a potato masher or use a ricer for smoother results. Add butter, milk or cream, and salt and pepper to taste. Keep mashing and mixing until you achieve your desired consistency. Some people prefer a smoother stamppot, while others like it slightly chunky.

Serve the mashed potato and vegetable mixture on plates, top with slices of smoked sausage and crispy bacon if desired. You can also pour gravy over the top if you like.
