The Château Neercanne is also a restaurant, which holds a Michelin star and offers fine dining experiences. The castle and its surroundings are also popular for weddings, events, and guided tours. The terraced gardens, the “Baroque Gardens of Neercanne,” are by a beautifully landscape and offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The four terraced gardens of the 17th century Chateau Neercanne (used as a restaurant) are open to the public. The third terrace was re-designed in 1997 by the landscape architect, W. Snelder, taking inspiration from the baroque style and from a poem written by Francois Halma in 1715.
The castle is a cultural heritage site and represents an important historical and architectural landmark in the region. Château Neercanne is a design by the French architect Jean-Baptiste de Bay in the 17th century. The wealthy Dutch nobleman Gerard Walram van Hoensbroeck asked Jean-Baptiste de Bay to design and construct the castle. The construction of the château began in 1698 and was completed in 1715. Jean-Baptiste de Bay incorporated elements of the Dutch Baroque style into the castle’s design, resulting in its distinctive architectural features. Over the centuries, Château Neercanne has undergone several modifications and restorations but retains its historical charm and significance. During the annual TEFAF Fair the Château Neercanne hosts several VIP gatherings.
